Create a kintone app from an Excel document

Created: Updated: Estimated time: 10 min

On the Templates tab, press "Create an app from this document" and choose your Excel file (up to 5 MB). PRING reads its fields and creates the kintone app and the PRING template. The reading happens only inside your browser. You can fix each field's name, type and "Use" before creating. Setting approval to "Yes" makes the applicant choose the approver. You need permission to create apps.

Steps

  1. 1. Press "Create an app from this document"

On the Templates tab of the settings screen, press "Create an app from this document". Open it with an account that has permission to create apps.

  2. 2. Choose the Excel file

Choose the Excel document you use now, up to 5 MB. The fields are read only inside your browser. Documents that contain field names in double curly braces, such as {{Customer name}}, and documents with empty space to the right of each heading (for example an input cell to the right of "Customer name") read best.

  3. 3. Check the fields that were read, and fix them

The list of fields that were read appears. Before creating, you can fix each field's name, type and "Use". Clear "Use" for a field you do not want in the app.

  4. 4. Decide the app name and approval

Enter the app name. If an app with the same name already exists, it is not created, so change the name. Setting approval to "Yes" makes an app where the person who applies chooses the approver. The order of fields on the input screen is set automatically.

  5. 5. Create the app and the template

Check the content and create. You get the kintone app and the PRING template for that app. You can output from the record screen right away to check it. To adjust the template, follow [Register a template](/en/help/admin/template).

  6. 6. If PRING could not be added

If the app was created but PRING could not be added, open that app's settings, add PRING under "Plugins", and update the app. After the update, the output button appears on the record screen.
